How to resolve AdBlock issue? POLAR supplies HK Audio's COSMO Line Array
Founded in 2019, Adventure Cinema is the UK’s biggest open air cinema tour, and enjoys huge success delivering the magic of the movies to audiences across more than seventy prestigious venues. Medieval castles and picturesque country estates all play host to a mix of classics, musicals, blockbusters, and family films, delivered by Adventure Cinema’s experienced teams. With premium picture quality as standard, powerful, crystal clear audio is absolutely essential to provide an exciting immersive audience experience. Since its inception, Adventure Cinema has invested exclusively in HK Audio systems, and recently contacted UK distributor POLAR about expanding its inventory to include HK Audio’s COSMO line array.
As demand for Adventure Cinema’s service has grown, so the size of its audiences has steadily increased, with more than 200,000 tickets sold at venues across the UK in 2024. In order to meet the requirements of larger events with bigger audiences, the company’s technical team needed a more powerful system to obtain the necessary coverage. At the beginning of the year, Mark Thompson, Director at Adventure Cinema, spoke to POLAR’s Head of Professional Audio, Andy Plunkett, who was happy to arrange a demonstration of the COSMO line array, as he explains:
“Adventure Cinema has had great experience with HK Audio for a number of years now, so they asked us for some options. We looked at the powerful new CX210LT long-throw point source and some COSMO line array systems. The COSMO was preferred, so we set up a demo at a rugby ground near their Bishop’s Castle HQ. I’d heard COSMO previously, so was very confident it would perform - one of HK’s mantras is ‘the demo sells the system’ and they’re not wrong! It’s fair to say that the guys at Adventure Cinema were blown away - we were able to easily reach their stated furthest distances for coverage with just three COSMO C10 modules. The audio quality was unlike anything they’d experienced previously, and they pretty much made their minds up on the spot.”
Head of Sound at Adventure Cinema, Jon O’Neill, was at the demo: “Our HK Audio Linear 5 system has served us brilliantly since we started but we really needed to up our game for much bigger events. Obviously, we weren’t going to buy a load of boxes without hearing them first, so it was great that POLAR were able to arrange a local demo so quickly. When I heard the system on the day there was no doubt that COSMO was the way forward. The performance was amazing and the really competitive pricing meant that we’ve been able to upgrade our three key teams’ systems.”
Andy continues: “The demo was a great success and clearly our ability to deliver well inside their season-start deadline was welcome. That also gave us plenty of time to run through the Lab Gruppen amplifier setup at their HQ.”
Adventure Cinema took delivery of 26 x HK COSMO C10 line array modules and 6 x HK Audio CS218 subs, complete with wheel boards and rigging. 6 x Lab Gruppen PLM12K44 amplifiers completed the investment.
Project Manager at Adventure Cinema, Ollie Farr, will be hands-on with the new COSMO systems: “I can’t wait to get out with the new systems. I couldn’t believe how good everything sounded at the demo - there’s no doubt that it’s really going to elevate all of our shows this year.”
Director Mark Thompson concludes: “POLAR looked after us really well last year, and this year they’ve again delivered one hundred percent. I spoke to Andy at the beginning of February and he immediately suggested getting a demo together for us, which was exactly what I wanted to hear. I’m not the sound guy here, but I have to say the COSMO system really impressed, and I’m sure the investment is going to be well rewarded for many years to come.”
