Velodyne Acoustics is announcing a product that already stands outside the usual scale even before its official debut: the 1824. The first ideas for this limited statement subwoofer took shape around 40 years of Velodyne Acoustics and grew into a project where, in the end, the calendar no longer mattered. Only the result did. For now, Velodyne Acoustics is deliberately showing the 1824 only in selected glimpses. The name of the new subwoofer already carries its technical concept: 1824 stands for an 18-inch and a 24-inch driver in one shared enclosure. The system is powered by three amplifier modules delivering a combined 6,000 watts RMS and 10,000 watts peak power. Low-frequency extension reaches down to 7Hz. Yet the 1824 is not intended as a mere demonstration of power. Velodyne Acoustics has always understood deep bass not as an effect, but as a controlled foundation for music, cinema, and immersive playback. It is from precisely this attitude that a subwoofer emerged whose power is not an end in itself. What matters in this exceptional subwoofer is headroom, composure, and absolute precision.
The original idea behind the 1824 was rooted in the more than 40-year history of Velodyne Acoustics. Such an anniversary could have led to a conventional special edition. But the initial impulse became a much larger project. The 1824 was not meant to arrive simply on time. It was meant to embody what defines Velodyne Acoustics at its core: controlled, deep-reaching, and sovereign bass.

That is exactly what makes it so special. Originally, it was meant to be presented for the 40th anniversary of Velodyne Acoustics, but with a product like this, the point is not to mark an anniversary on time. It is to translate four decades of experience in controlled low-frequency reproduction into a technical statement. To do that, power, enclosure design, electronics, tuning, and handling all had to come together without compromise. This subwoofer project has been with us for a long time, and it has challenged us as well. The calendar gave us the impulse, but the result had to be perfect. That makes it all the more special for for the entire team and me to present the 1824 for the first time at High End in Vienna, knowing that it does not merely meet expectations, but exceeds them.”
At roughly 350 kilograms, the Velodyne Acoustics 1824 is a subwoofer beyond ordinary dimensions. At the same time, its enclosure has been designed to be as compact as possible. Handles are integrated into the design, and dedicated wheeled lifters are supplied. As a result, even a product in this class remains as manageable as possible in real installations, from transport to final positioning in the room. Inside, the latest generation of Velodyne Acoustics electronics is at work. The calibration system has been realized through a newly developed app and is designed to precisely adapt the 1824 to the room, the loudspeakers, and personal listening preferences. In this way, even the sheer power of this subwoofer remains controllable in any room.
The Velodyne Acoustics 1824 will be limited to just 50 units worldwide. Each unit receives an individual plaque bearing the name of its owner. This makes the 1824 not only the new top-of-the-line model from Velodyne Acoustics, but also a personal piece of brand history. The Velodyne Acoustics 1824 will celebrate its official premiere at High End Vienna 2026, where it will be presented as part of the Audio Reference press conference. Until then, the 1824 will remain a deliberate promise from the depths: uncompromising in concept, limited in production, and developed for precise low-frequency performance that is not about being louder at any cost.
