Celemony's Tonalic Now in Universal Audio's Luna
Starting today, songwriting in Luna has real session musicians within reach, right inside the DAW. Tonalic, the plug-in from the creators of Melodyne, puts studio performances by world-class players into the song and reshapes them, with the Tonalic engine built on Celemony's DNA technology, to follow the chords, tempo and groove of the song they are dropped into. In Luna, that means a producer with a chord progression and a rough idea can audition a guitar part against the song while it plays, drag it onto the timeline, extend it across a section, and change the chords three weeks later with the same performance still following along. The session stays open right up to the last minute, and what plays from the first bar is a real player, recorded in a real studio.
With Luna 3.0, Tonalic is embedded directly in Universal Audio's DAW through ARA. It opens from the Warp menu of an Audio Track, alongside Melodyne, and brings the library of more than 30 session musicians into Luna's editor. The performances, called Tonalics, are browsed there and auditioned in place. Drag a Tonalic onto a track, or below the existing tracks, and Luna creates the new track and opens Tonalic ARA on it. Transitions, fills and endings from the same session are one drag away on the Set page.
“Luna began as a place to record and mix, and more and more people now write their songs in it. That is exactly where Tonalic belongs. You have a chord progression and a rough idea, and what you hear are world-class musicians going along with it, following your idea while the song is still taking shape. That is for anyone who likes to work quickly and fluently and wants the result to sound like a record, which is what Luna users are used to,” says Leo Waidosch, Director Content & Product at Celemony.
Luna Studio owners receive Tonalic essential included: acoustic and electric guitar performances by Uwe Bossert, guitarist of the successful pop-rock band Reamonn (“Supergirl”), as a perpetual license. The license is redeemed via UA Connect and activated in a free Tonalic account at tonalic.com. Tonalic essential is the entry point into the Tonalic world, with upgrade paths to the larger Tonalic editions when more musicians, instruments and creative control are needed.
Tonalic in Luna requires Luna 3.0 and Tonalic 1.0.4 or later. Tonalic also runs in all other major DAWs as a VST3, AU or AAX plug-in, and offers the same ARA integration in Studio One Pro, Fender Studio Pro, Cubase, Nuendo and Waveform Pro. Tonalic is available as a monthly or annual subscription at tonalic.com, currently with a 1$/€ introductory offer for the first month. Prepaid licenses with no subscription commitment (for one month or one year) are available through music dealers.
