HEDD Audio HEDDphone D1

HEDD Audio today announces the release of the HEDDphone D1, the world’s first dynamic-driver headphone to feature Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) technology. First imagined eight years ago, the idea of bringing Thin-Ply Carbon into headphone design has now been realized through extensive development and refinement. The D1 embodies HEDD’s decade of innovation and the forty-year acoustic legacy of its founder, Klaus Heinz. Developed in collaboration with Composite Sound of Sweden - specialists in advanced diaphragm design and manufacturing - the outcome is a headphone that redefines the very idea of what a dynamic driver can achieve.
Just as HEDD’s Air Motion Transformer (AMT) redefined what was possible in studio monitoring, the D1 brings the same spirit of innovation to the traditional dynamic driver. It is a headphone that celebrates materials, collaboration, and most importantly, sound. The D1 is HEDD’s first dynamic-driver headphone - a true outlier that delivers sonic precision and tonal integrity, achieving a realism rarely found in conventional dynamic headphones.
Thin-Ply Carbon (TPC) is not ordinary carbon fiber. Composed of ultra-thin layers of carbon precisely aligned and bonded, it is prized for its exceptional stiffness-to-density ratio, low mass, and resilience. As such, it has become the material of choice for extreme performance demands - from the chassis of Formula 1 cars to NASA’s Mars helicopter, Ingenuity.
In the D1, TPC becomes something entirely new: Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD). This precisely engineered diaphragm controls resonances on a structural basis, eliminating the need for traditional damping materials at the diaphragm level, and allowing faster, cleaner, and more accurate motion across the audible spectrum.
A revolution in dynamic drivers:
- Dynamic drivers have always come with compromises: bass versus highs, weight versus stability, quality versus price. The D1 changes this by rethinking the fundamentals:
- A transducer with the precision of a studio monitor, yet the intimacy of a high-end headphone.
- An ultra-light diaphragm and compact driver design that enable a comfortable, lightweight form factor.
- Sonic clarity and tonal accuracy for audiophiles who seek fidelity and balance, built for long, immersive sessions without fatigue.
- Moderate impedance (32 O) and sensitivity (100 dB) for easy pairing with most sources, while scaling gracefully with premium amplification.
The D1 brings professional, studio-grade precision to personal listening - without the usual trade-offs. Every D1 headphone is made in Germany, with its custom TPCD diaphragm produced exclusively by Composite Sound in Sweden. All components are fully serviceable. HEDD backs this commitment with an industry-leading 5-year warranty - rare in this category, and a reflection of the belief that great headphones should be an investment, not a consumable. HEDDphone D1 will be available starting 6 November 2025 through select retail and distribution partners.
