How to resolve AdBlock issue? Audio-Technica BP350ST
Audio-Technica has unveiled its new BP350ST MS (mid-side) microphone in two different guises - the camera-mount BP350ST-UL and boundary or gooseneck mountable BP350ST-UB. The microphone is designed for professional broadcast, ENG and field recording applications and features independent line-cardioid and figure-of-eight elements configured in MS (mid-side) arrangement with switch-selectable internal matrixing.
Users can choose between left-right stereo output (wide or narrow) and discrete mid-side signals for later manipulation, offering real flexibility for audio post-production. Mid-side operation offers many advantages, delivering audio that retains its depth when stereo channels are combined into a mono track and the enables the placing of dialogue naturally into a mix. The BP350ST’s “two mics in one” design also helps reduce common problems with stereo miking, such as time alignment and comb filtering.
The BP350ST-UB’s element is housed within the same compact body as the popular ATM350a instrument mic and can be mounted using two included mounting solutions – a low-profile boundary housing and a 5" gooseneck with clip-on mount to enable inconspicuous capture of true stereo sound. The variant can also be used with any ATM350a mounting system.
The snap-on grille of the included boundary housing provides easy access to the microphone, which lodges securely into the boundary’s base plate. The back of the plate is magnetised for easy mounting on metal surfaces and also includes four holes for screw-mounting. With the gooseneck and clip-on mount, the mic can quickly be positioned in any number of locations for ideal, close-to-the-action sound pickup. The AT8491UC clip-on mount includes a 1/4" camera thread for use with a tripod or other device.
The camera-mount BP350ST-UL mic features a 16 cm (6.3") interference tube that rejects off-axis noise to focus on distant sounds. The mic is designed to mount securely to video cameras or support rigs, delivering lifelike stereo sound capture in dynamic recording situations. The AT8547 power module can be mounted into a camera’s microphone mount or secured using third-party options.
Both BP350ST variants feature permanently attached cables (30cm for the BP350ST-UL, 7.6m for the BP350ST-UB) terminating in TA5F connectors that plug into the power module. Each model ships with a 36cm TA5F to dual XLR3-M stereo cable for connection to any mic preamp with phantom power.
