Playfair Audio Body

Playfair Audio has announced Body, a free one-knob dynamics plugin built on the same DSP engine that powers Dynamic Grading. Body provides a single Body control and gain control so engineers and producers can add weight and presence quickly and musically. Body gives users a straightforward way to hear Dynamic Grading’s approach without the learning curve of the full product. It uses Playfair’s Spectrum and timing engine together with the Source Learn feature from Dynamic Grading, but with parameters fixed to proven, musical settings for fast results.

While many processors focus on traditional upward or downward compression and expansion, Body takes a different approach. Based on Dynamic Grading’s Body concept, it reacts around the centre of a signal’s dynamics rather than simply pushing from above or below. The result is a more natural and musical response, enhanced by the familiar Source Learn feature that automatically sets thresholds for effortless operation. “We wanted a simple way for people to try the core of Dynamic Grading,” said Christian Luther, founder of Playfair Audio. “Body gives immediate, useful results.
