The Vienna Symphonic Library announces the release of Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) and Synchron Solo Cello (sordino), the first two instalments of a new line of muted solo string instruments recorded on the large Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage. Performed by Vienna Synchron Orchestra concertmaster Marina Dimitrova and first chair cellist Florian Eggner, these collections capture the distinct, silky character of muted string playing in extraordinary detail. Both are currently available at introductory prices of €129 (reg. €169) for each Standard Library and €179 (reg €239) for each Full Library. To mark the occasion, the company is also launching an Early Bird Offer on the Synchron Solo Strings Bundle (sordino) and a comprehensive promotion on all original Synchron Solo Strings collections.

The Synchron Solo Strings Bundle (sordino) will eventually unite all four muted instruments of a world-class string quartet, performed by Marina Dimitrova (violin 1), Damir Orašcanin (violin 2), Anna Firsanova (viola), and Florian Eggner (cello). With the Early Bird Offer, customers save an additional 10% on the introductory prices of €389 for the Standard Library and €529 for the Full Library. Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) and Synchron Solo Cello (sordino) are available now, while Synchron Solo Violin 2 (sordino) and Synchron Solo Viola (sordino) will automatically appear in the customer's Vienna Assistant for installation upon their release in August 2026.

To celebrate the arrival of the sordino line, all original Synchron Solo Strings collections are available at specially reduced prices through June 30, 2026. In addition, Synchron Solo Violin 1 and Synchron Solo Cello have just been expanded with new sul tasto and sul ponticello articulations. Existing users receive these new articulations automatically, free of charge.

There is a special magic to the muted voice of a string instrument. Placing a mute on the bridge does more than soften the sound – it invites musicians to approach the instrument in a different way, reshaping bow pressure, phrasing, and dynamics to draw out a warmer, silkier tone. It is a sound that has colored countless film scores, concert works, and intimate passages, and the new sordino collections preserve this expressive playing style with the same precision and authenticity that define the original Synchron Solo Strings.

Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) once again features acclaimed violinist Marina Dimitrova, concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra, who has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Synchron Solo Cello (sordino) is performed by renowned soloist Florian Eggner, first chair cellist of the orchestra and a member of the Grammy-nominated Eggner Trio. With the mute in place, both artists reveal a different side of their instruments – more refined, more inward, yet no less expressive.

Each collection offers essentially the same comprehensive articulation set as its original counterpart, with every note recorded using the sordino. Short notes include various spiccatos, staccatos, détachés, ricochet, and saltando. Long notes come with different attacks, releases, and slides, while legato variants range from normal and agile to slurred, portamento, and zigane. Sforzatos, tremolos, trills, harmonics, and pizzicatos round out the palette. The Crossfade Editor in the Vienna Synchron Player allows for seamless blending between articulations, letting composers shape transitions with full musical control.
