ATC SSM Series

Introducing its SSM (Studio Surface Monitor) series, ATC announces the availability of SSM12i Pro and SSM25i Pro (pictured above) as two new wall-/ceiling-mount passive studio monitors - making use of a shallow cabinet depth, proprietary mounting hardware, and reinforced cabinet to target surround and immersive audio installations, especially those in smaller control rooms - alongside R4-150 Pro, produced as a new four-channel power amp to compliment them, as of January 26…
SSM series speakers feature a very shallow cabinet - SSM12i Pro’s measures just 147mm/5 13/16”, while SSM25i Pro’s is only slightly deeper at 198mm/7 13/16” (mounted flat and including the mounting hardware in both cases). The speaker can be configured to mount not only in a vertical (portrait) orientation but also horizontally (landscape) - a valuable feature when ceiling mounted as the acoustic source height is maximised while also creating greater clearance to the users in the control room below them. They also feature a mounting system that fixes flat to a wall or ceiling and allows the cabinet to pivot away from the mounting surface so aiming the speaker towards the listening position, resulting in a superior response and more precise imaging.
As a compact, high-performance passive two-way loudspeaker, SSM12i Pro is built around proprietary drive units designed and manufactured by ATC and operating in a sealed cabinet. ATC’s advanced SB45-150CLD 150mm/6” bass/mid driver is employed at low and mid-range frequencies, featuring a unique CLD (Constrained Layer Damping) cone, which effectively minimises cone breakup. The sealed cabinet design and a new crossover network, optimised via extensive computer modelling and listening tests, are engineered to deliver optimal performance when the loudspeaker is mounted on/close to a hard wall/surface. For frequencies above the 2.2kHz crossover point, ATC’s innovative SH25-76 25mm/1” dual-suspension tweeter ensures precise and transparent reproduction of high-frequency content. Together, these advanced components provide SSM12i Pro with outstanding clarity, balance, and detail, making it a superior choice for demanding audio environments.
For larger spaces, SSM25i Pro delivers exceptional audio quality through a combination of advanced engineering and premium components. It features three proprietary ATC drive units housed in a sealed cabinet design for precise and consistent performance. Utilising a short coil/long gap design and paper/carbon fibre cone, ATC’s SB50-164SC 164mm/6.5” bass driver provides an extended and precise low-frequency output, from 47Hz up to 380Hz. Meanwhile, midrange frequencies are handled by ATC’s renowned SM75-150 75mm/3” midrange dome, celebrated for delivering unmatched clarity and detail - hallowed hallmarks of ATC’s design expertise. High frequencies above 3.5kHz are reproduced by ATC’s advanced ATC SH25-76S ‘S-Spec’ tweeter. This 25mm/1” soft dome tweeter incorporates a dual-suspension design for enhanced mechanical stability - just like SM12i Pro’s innovative SH25-76 - and allows the coil to operate within the tight tolerance of an air-cooled magnetic gap. As a result of the seamless integration of these drive units within that sealed cabinet design, SSM25i Pro is an ideal choice for multichannel and immersive audio applications in medium to large control rooms, including those requiring Dolby Atmos or other immersive audio setups. SSM25i Pro - like SSM12i Pro - features an all-new crossover network, engineered to deliver optimal performance when the loudspeaker is mounted on/close to a hard wall/surface.
The new models have both been designed and engineered to work with ATC’s existing professional product range seamlessly. Installation is simplified via the drilling templates included with the products, and the mounting hardware itself is straightforward and very robust. Reality dictates that mounting safety is a very important part of the designs, both cabinets being reinforced with steel plates and also featuring a safety tether point to secure them in the very rare event of primary mounting failure.
In its landscape orientation, SSM12i Pro measures 490 mm/19 5/16” (W) x 147mm/5 13/16” (D) x 315 mm/12 3/8” (H), while weighing in at 14.8kg/32.6lbs; by comparison, SSM25i Pro measures 740 mm 29 1/8” (W) x 198mm/7 13/16” (D) x 380 mm/14 15/16” (H) and weighs 28.2kg/62.2lbs. As a direct result of the size and weight of the two new loudspeakers, installation must be handled by a qualified professional - especially when it comes to mounting overhead.

Obviously keen to ensure that these new loudspeakers can comfortably operate at their full potential, ATC is also announcing availability of R4-150 Pro as a new four-channel, 5U/19” power amplifier to compliment them. This shares technology with ATC’s acclaimed P1 Pro dual-mono power amplifier - herein quad-mono in operation, courtesy of four toroidal transformers. The new 5U chassis conveniently saves 2U of rack space compared to using two P1 Pro. Put it this way: R4-150 Pro is capable of 150W continuous output from each of its four channels (benefitting from Class A-B MOSFET output stages) - ideal for the dynamic content found in immersive mixes. Moreover, it also features ultra-high CMRR (Common-Mode Rejection Ratio) low-noise balanced inputs via 4x XLR while the output connections are via 4x Neutrik NL4. With fan-less convection cooling, R4-150 Pro operates silently - perfect when installed in control rooms, while thermal and D.C. offset protection and remote power on/off trigger inputs allow for flexible and reliable installation.
The SSM12i Pro, the SSM25i Pro, as well as the R4-150 Pro are availablow now.
