For years, Black Lion Audio’s Auteur preamps have earned a reputation for exceptional sonic flexibility. Auteur 8DAT delivers eight channels of the acclaimed Auteur design in a single unit, making it easy to track multiple sources simultaneously while giving each channel just the right amount of desired preamp color. Auteur preamps’ unique hybrid design features a fast, transparent IC-based front-end and Cinemag output transformers that add weight and color when pushed. The result is a preamp capable of delivering crisp, modern transient response at conservative gain levels while offering the warmth and saturation associated with classic British designs when driven.
Auteur 8DAT is designed to integrate seamlessly into modern hybrid studios. Users can route signals through analog XLR outputs to a console or take advantage of built-in ADAT connectivity to add eight channels of high-quality preamps directly to their existing audio interface. Each channel includes independent phantom power, polarity reverse, and a -10dB pad, along with front-panel ¼-inch inputs switchable between DI and line-level operation. For outboard processing, the unit also features eight insert points via DB25 connectors. These inserts can be switched directly from the front panel, making it easy to A/B external processing when monitoring through the ADAT outputs. The sends can also function as mults, enabling parallel processing chains or mid-side workflows.
Auteur 8DAT doubles as a powerful word clock capable of synchronizing an entire recording rig. Its patented Macro-MMC technology ensures ultra-stable synchronization and extremely low jitter, helping preserve transient clarity and stereo imaging. Engineers can confidently clock their whole system from the Auteur 8DAT via BNC connections - or sync the unit to an external clock if desired.
Black Lion Audio has equipped the Auteur 8DAT with premium components throughout its signal path. High-end Vishay, Wima, and Nichicon capacitors, thin-film resistors, and carefully optimized gain staging ensure low noise and maximum signal integrity. The converters are derived from the company’s acclaimed Revolution interfaces, delivering clear, detailed digital capture at sample rates up to 192kHz.
