Stereo effect reverb plug-in

In July 2025, IK Multimedia introduced Prism Reverb, a new shimmer reverb plug-in. The focus is not on simulating rooms as realistically as possible, but rather on reverb effects.
Requirements, formats, license
We won't go into detail about the installation, as we have already described it several times in other reviews - and if you are using the IK Product Manager with a user account, the installation is pretty self-explanatory. The plug-in is included in “T-RackS 6 MAX” and the “Total Studio 5 MAX” plug-in bundles.
If you already have T-RackS MAX or Total Studio 5 MAX installed, Prism Reverb will be available immediately after updating to the latest version. As usual with IK Multimedia T-RackS plug-ins, the formats VST3, AAX, and AudioUnit for macOS are also available. An Intel Core i5 or Apple M1 processor is required for macOS, and for Windows at least an i5 processor and Windows 10, as well as an OpelGL 2-compatible graphics card. An Internet connection is required for authorization. Up to five installations are possible with one license.
The plug-in is designed as a stereo effects processor. It offers a resolution of up to 32-bit float with a maximum sample rate of 192kHz.
Operation
Presets can be selected and saved in the bar at the top of the plug-in. Users can switch between four versions for direct comparison. No special dialog page exists for global settings.
Clicking on the preset name opens a preset browser (see figure above). There are 33 factory presets, most of which are effects. Favorites can be selected from the list using the mouse.
The user can set the input and output levels, as well as the stereo image width and the proportion of the effect to the original signal (dry/wet) at the top of the user interface.
There are four adjustment areas. In the REVERB section on the far left, you can set the basic reverb parameters such as the simulated room size (SIZE), the density of the reverb tail (DIFFUSION), and there is a high-pass and a low-pass filter.
In the MOD section, you can add amplitude modulation to the effect path for each channel. The modulation index, modulation frequency, and a random factor can be independently set for each of the two channels. The rate can also be synchronized to the tempo of the host software.
No modern reverb effect would be complete without a shimmer effect. With Prism Reverb, two frequency shifts of up to two octaves are possible. Here, you can adjust the level of the frequency-shifted signal, the frequency shift, and the stereo panorama. A virtual button allows you to fine-tune the frequency. This processing section can also be switched on or off and is graphically visualized.
There is also a FEEDBACK section that feeds the effect signal back to the processor input. This section can also be deactivated. The user can set the feedback level (LEVEL) and use two knobs to adjust the feedback frequency range (RANGE, CENTER), and the low and high frequencies can also be adjusted (LOW, HIGH). FB PITCH switches the pitch shifter from the effect path to the feedback branch, and the FLIP switch activates a mode that creates a special stereo effect in which the channels are swapped each time the signal passes through the feedback path.
In practice
We tested the Prism Reverb with T-RackS version 6.3.0 on Windows 11 on an AudioKern B14 workstation from Digital Audio Service with Nuendo 14. The plug-in requires very few CPU resources at a sample rate of 48kHz. The controls are very clearly laid out thanks to the four function blocks. However, the FEEDBACK section is not entirely self-explanatory. At the time of testing and publication, the T-RackS processor manual did not include the plug-in.
IK Multimedia offers a wide variety of reverb plug-ins in T-RackS 6 MAX, which we have already reviewed, including CSR Room, Reverb, Plate, Inverse Reverb, Dual Spring, and FAME Studio Reverb. What was missing until now was an effect reverb plug-in - which is now available with Prism Reverb. Therefore, Prism Reverb is not a universal reverb plug-in with many possibilities but one with a very tailored and thus special functionality. Examples of such reverb effects are shimmer reverb or reverb effects where you have an excitation signal that blends into a completely different sound through the combination of the individual sections.
First, you should familiarize yourself with the specific sound of the individual sections and then activate them accordingly, then deactivating the other sections. You will then hear that the REVERB section alone has a very distinctive sound. When the DENSITY knob is set to less than the middle position, you can hear the individual reflections very clearly, which only merge into a classic integrated reverb when the value is increased. The MOD section thrives on different settings for the left and right channels. PITCH can also be adjusted very slightly using a fine-tuning control. The FEEDBACK section allows you to achieve some very interesting effects. It's also great that you can loop the two pitch shifters into the feedback path, which is not usually possible with other effect reverbs with a shimmer effect. The FLIP function is more of a subtle nuance in terms of sound but still interesting.
The plug-in will undoubtedly delight users in the fields of film music, sound design, and ambient sound, and can be used with a wide variety of sound sources, from vocals to strings, piano, and even electric guitar, as well as percussion. The included factory presets are more general in nature, with three specifically designed for guitars and vocals.
Conclusion
The regular retail price is approximately $120. As already mentioned, it is part of T-RackS 6 MAX, among other very useful plug-ins. Prism Reverb fills a functional gap within T-RackS, but this does not mean that the plug-in can only be used in conjunction with T-RackS. It is an extremely interesting plug-in for very special reverb effects.
