Tascam FR-AV4
Tascam introduces the FR-AV4, a compact 4-track audio field recorder featuring a built-in mixer, timecode generator and HDMI sync. Designed for video production, journalism and location recording, the FR-AV4 offers 32-bit float recording with dual A/D converters, enabling the capture of audio at up to 192 kHz without clipping or gain staging concerns. Four Tascam Ultra HDDA mic preamps on XLR/TRS combo inputs and a 4-in/2-out mixer make it possible to record six tracks (four mono sources plus a stereo mix). MS configurations and ambisonic microphones can also be used. The unit supports multi-camera workflows with LTC jam sync, HDMI timecode, record triggering, 4K/8K passthrough, and cascading of multiple recorders via HDMI. The FR-AV4 also functions as a 6-in/2-out USB-C audio interface, supporting 24-bit and 32-bit float formats.
Monitoring and control options include Bluetooth audio output and remote operation via the free Tascam Recorder Connect app (iOS, iPadOS, Android) when paired with the optional AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter. Monitoring settings can be accessed quickly using a dedicated key on the front panel, while a freely assignable function key allows users to easily open the Bluetooth settings, for example.
The FR-AV4 is equipped with a 1.9-inch (4.8 cm) colour touchscreen and a jog wheel for navigation. Additional features include EQ, limiter, low-cut filter and noise gate. Using SDXC cards with a capacity of up to 512 GB, along with automatic file protection, ensures long, secure recording sessions. The recorder can be powered by four AA batteries (with a replaceable BH-4AA battery holder), a USB power bank, or the optional Tascam PS-P520U adapter. The integrated camera mount is ideal for fast-paced productions and location work. The FR-AV4 offers superior sound quality for interviews, narrative films and documentaries, as well as for capturing immersive spatial audio. Users benefit from comprehensive control options and outstanding reliability in a robust, portable format.
