Tascam DR-40XP

Tascam presents the DR-40XP, a significantly improved version of its highly successful predecessors, the DR-40 and DR-40X. This compact four-track audio recorder has undergone a number of technical enhancements and is set to impress with a further significant improvement in sound quality. According to Tascam, 32-bit floating-point resolution and a redesigned chassis enable spontaneous, professional-quality recordings with simple operation and minimal setup.
The two new adjustable condenser microphones on the DR-40XP now offer more effective shielding against radio interference from smartphones and other devices. This is particularly noticeable during quiet recordings. In addition, Tascam’s proprietary HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) microphone preamps on the two XLR/TRS inputs now feature selectable input sensitivity and ensure a lower noise floor – beneficial not only when recording with dynamic microphones. According to the manufacturer, the equivalent input noise is a low –126 dBu.
Tascam cites further improvements including higher clock accuracy (10ppm instead of 30ppm), improved sound quality from the built-in speaker, and faster recording starts due to the elimination of record pause. Like its predecessors, the DR-40XP features an overdub function for punch recordings, a mixing feature with level, pan and effects controls for each track, an MS decoder and much more. Via its USB-C port, it can function as an audio interface for Windows and Mac computers as well as iOS devices. It can also be used as a USB microphone with these devices.
Whether on the go or in the studio: with its professional features, a battery life of up to 30 hours (lithium batteries) and up to 512 gigabytes of storage space with microSDXC cards, the DR-40XP is perfectly equipped for a productive day of recording.
