Tascam adds Auto Mixer to FR-AV4

Just three months after its launch, Tascam’s new 4-track field recorder, the FR-AV4, is already receiving a feature update: The company has announced that firmware version 1.10 is being released today, including a new auto-mixer. This is intended to simplify the mixing of individual sources during meetings, interviews, panel discussions and other situations in which speakers are recorded with multiple microphones.
Set directly on the device or via the Recorder Connect app, this new feature intelligently manages multiple microphone inputs by prioritising the microphone currently in use and gently attenuating unused channels. This significantly reduces ambient noise, highlights important speakers and improves the clarity of the overall mix.
While other solutions only lower the level of individual channels, Tascam takes a different approach with gain sharing. This maintains the overall gain and distributes it across the individually weighted microphone channels in such a way that their respective presence is retained. The result is a transparent mix with a largely stable volume.
If you already own an FR-AV4, the easiest way to get the firmware update is via Tascam’s new Update Manager.
